For me, event or celebration photography represents any sort of gathering to celebrate a milestone. The gathering could be an intimate wedding at Monkey Ranch or a Bat Mitzvah after party at the Phoenix. The celebration could be a fundraiser or an art exhibition or a fabulous Senior Photo session with multiple wardrobe changes. Whatever the setting or the lighting, I love to lean into my photography skills combining my understanding of my camera gear, the options current photography software offer, and my affection for the moments of connection that celebration events offer. I prefer to work without an on-camera flash, unless my clients request it. I also prefer to work in an understated documentary manner, allowing the event to unfold, keeping my focus on capturing significant moments as they appear. Of course, with gatherings of families and friends there is always the opportunity and need for group photos, which I will joyfully direct and capture (often with a pinch of silly to get those smiles).
